Your browser is the program on your PC that allows you to locate and display web pages.

Why do I need to keep my browser up to date?

The browser program can be vulnerable to browser hijack programs that change the default settings
For example, if you set www.nationwideuk.ie as your homepage but every time you click on your browser you are automatically directed to a different homepage then your browser may have been hijacked
You can confirm this by changing the default page back to www.nationwideuk.ie, saving the change and closing your browser
If, when you click on your browser again, it takes back to the other homepage then this is classic hijack behaviour

Similarly to your operating system you should keep your browser up to date and check with your browser supplier regularly for updates and patches
