Nationwide improves its ranking in the World's top 50 Safest Banks – October 2011

Global Finance magazine has published its annual ranking of the World’s 50 safest banks and Nationwide is positioned at 41. This is the 20th year that the list has been published and the ranking has become a recognised and trusted standard of credit worthiness for the entire financial world.

Nationwide has moved up to 41 in the list from its position of 46 last year. Organisations that are included in the top 50 were selected through an evaluation of long-term credit ratings—from Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch; and total assets of the 500 largest banks worldwide.

"As part of the Nationwide group, Nationwide UK (Ireland) is proud of its financial security and the fact that we have been included for a third year on the list is testament to a very resilient performance in current market conditions," commented Brendan Synnott, Nationwide UK (Ireland) Managing Director.

He continued, "Given that Global Finance assesses the top 500 banks from around the world, being included in the Top 50 safest banks is a great achievement for Nationwide and consequently Nationwide UK (Ireland) as a full branch of Nationwide Building Society. It demonstrates the continued strength of our structure and prudent approach to managing our business."

Nationwide UK (Ireland) currently employs 21 people at its offices in Dublin's IFSC and Merrion Row where it provides account management and customer services for personal savers.
